 What IDMS
programming languages do you currently convert? |
We provide
automated conversion (Migration) for the following languages:
- ADSO to COBOL/CICS or COBOL/IMS-TM
- COBOL/IDMS-DC to COBOL/CICS or COBOL/IMS-TM
- COBOL batch or CICS IDMS to COBOL batch or CICS SQL
- PL/I IDMS to PL/I SQL

What platforms do you target in the
Migration? |
We target the mainframe
environments for all of the above languages and transaction processors. We also support
mid-range and client-server environments for COBOL batch or COBOL/CICS applications.

What databases can you convert to? |
We provide automated conversion
(Migration) to DB2, Oracle, Sybase, Informix and any other ANSI standard SQL environment.

What versions of IDMS do you support? |
We support all versions of IDMS in
the Migration to SQL.

How much automation do your products provide? |
Forecross provides up to 100%
automated conversion for program Migrations. Over the years, Forecross has performed many
IDMS Migration projects for clients in the United States, Canada and Europe. With each
unique Migration, our products have been enhanced to increase the degree of automation
provided during the conversion. As a result, our highly automated conversion technology
provides a comprehensive and quality Migration solution that is easily maintained by your
existing application staff.

Am I able to customize the code generated
from the conversion to meet my company’s specific standards and requirements? |
Our Convert/IDMS products include
a number of customization options available that allow you to choose very specific options
to apply during the conversion. These customization options include renaming of the
programs, maps and other components, whether sections or paragraphs should be performed,
the type of error handling desired and the type of library control cards to be used.

Do you automate the data conversion as
well?
|
| Yes. Forecross automates 100% of
the data conversion. We will automatically generate programs to extract your IDMS data
into flat sequential files that may be loaded by the SQL database load utility.

How long will it take to migrate my IDMS
applications to a relational environment?
|
The length of time to migrate any
given application to a relational environment depends on a number of factors including the
number and types of programs (e.g. ADSO, COBOL, IDMS/DC, PL/I) requiring conversion, the
number of IDMS record types in the schema(s), the overall complexity of the code, the
target environment and your experience in the target environment, and the testing
procedures used within your organization. However, during the main program conversion
phase on a recent IDMS conversion project, Forecross converted, clean compiled and turned
over for client testing more than 100 programs per day to meet their business and
testing objectives.

What are the
benefits of an automated Migration as compared to other conversion alternatives? |
An
automated Migration is the most expedient, low-cost, low-risk conversion alternative as
compared to other options. The automated Migration generates consistent and error-free
code, which equates to predictable results, simplified testing, improved project control
and a quick project payback.

We currently support COBOL/CICS.
Forecross can, however, customize the Convert/CSP-to-COBOL conversion technology to
support other languages as the need arises.

you generate? |
All environment specific
implementations of the COBOL 85 standards, including COBOL II, COBOL for MVS, COBOL 370
and LE/COBOL and Micro Focus COBOL.

you support? |
All CSP release levels.

conversion? |
Forecross provides up to 100%
automated conversion for the CSP application Migrations. Over the years, Forecross has
