SAN FRANCISCO, CA: Forecross ® Corporation, a legacy-to-web and XML implementation solutions company, announced today that it has established a business partnership with Don Estes & Associates, a specialized consultancy in IT legacy modernization.

Don Estes & Associates assists Forecross clients in choosing the best technical strategy (or combination of strategies) for legacy modernization, and designing projects to optimize quality, cost, and risk. Legacy modernization today includes mainframes using languages such as COBOL, ADSO, CSP, and IDEAL among many others, and also client/server platforms employing languages such as Visual Basic, Progress, C/C++, or Java in a 2-tier architecture.
These aging applications are doing the job needed, but the way they are doing it costs too much in maintenance overhead and takes too long to serve the business requirement for nimble responsiveness. To reduce costs and capture business flexibility, the applications need to be modernized into an object oriented language, such as Java or C# in an n-tier services oriented architecture (SOA), that employs a relational database management system such as Oracle, DB2 or SQL Server.
Deciding on an optimal project design requires understanding the business case, schedule goals, resource availability, residual value in the legacy assets, technical details of the application implementations and deployments, and appetite for assuming IT risk. Choosing the best strategy is primarily a business question, not a technical question, except insofar as technology impacts the business.
