Brown Brothers Harriman & Company Completes Major Software Migration Project
From ADSO/IDMS-DB/DC to COBOL/CICS/DB2

SAN FRANCISCO, CA: Forecross® Corporation (OTCBB-FRXX), a legacy Migration and year 2000 solution company, announced today the completion of a major software Migration project for one of its clients, Brown Brothers Harriman & Company (BBH&Co.). The project involved moving BBH&Co.'s core business applications from an ADSO/IDMS-DB/DC database and processing environment to a COBOL/CICS/DB2 environment. Forecross used its Convert/IDMS products and services to automatically translate all of the programs and data from the old languages and environment to the target languages and environment. "These applications are a major corporate asset," indicated BBH&Co. Chief Information Officer, Bill Anderson. "As a result of this project, we have not only extended the life of each application, but we have streamlined our Information Technology environment and moved these mission critical systems onto the platform that is at the heart of our long-term strategy."

The project affected numerous applications and required conversion of approximately 2,300 ADSO/IDMS-DB, COBOL/IDMS-DC, COBOL/CICS/IDMS-DB and COBOL/IDMS-DB programs accessing a large, integrated IDMS database to a functionally equivalent DB2 relational tables environment using COBOL/CICS.

Because of the number of applications involved, the shift to DB2 could not be implemented for all applications at the same time. This meant that complex bridging mechanisms were required, so that programs redeployed to the new environment could co-exist with programs that were
still running in the old environment.

"A key to success is having the right tool for each task. We decided that San Francisco-based Forecross Corporation had the right tools for numerous tasks involved in this complex project," remarked Rick Berk, Department Head, Enterprise Systems at BBH&Co. "Their IDMS to DB2 Migration tool set is highly automated, which meant time and cost savings for us," added Berk. "Another key was a technique Forecross uses called application isolation, a real-time bridging mechanism that let us implement one application at a time in a dual database environment. This gave us a great deal of flexibility in our production implementation schedule, and allowed me to meet the needs of my end-users."

BBH&Co. involved numerous internal user departments to test for "functional equivalence" between the old environment and the new one. User representatives from each BBH&Co. functional business area participated in building and executing test scripts. Testing results were also reviewed by the firm's Quality Assurance team prior to implementation of the converted code into production.
