2.4 Conclusion

It may be appropriate in specific cases to use a first generation middleware solution to interface a legacy application temporarily while a new solution is readied for use. However, the retrofit of modern XML technology into legacy applications can be a practical, cost/effective and low risk strategy to achieve A2A or B2B integration. Furthermore, this can provide a true, long-term second-generation implementation almost as quickly as middleware, and with substantial cost and flexibility advantages over middleware solutions. While this solution will not be the best choice for all applications, it will be for many, and should be considered when planning technical strategy It may be appropriate in specific cases to use a first generation middleware solution to interface.
