Web Services

| ConclusionSome of the starry eyed
predictions for Web Services may prove too optimistic, or we may all be retired before
they are widely prevalent, but there is real value in Web Services for the enterprise
today, even if the only use is in house. Web Services provide a low cost and robust
solution to EAI requirements, by enabling universal browser access, user interface
re-engineering for increased productivity, and most importantly by providing the
infrastructure to easily and quickly build composite applications. These composite
applications can tie together separate mainframe applications, mainframe and client/server
applications, or even internal applications with external Web Services. Easy, inexpensive,
and robust solutions are available now to solve today's enterprise problems. Our
recommendation is to proceed cautiously, as in all new development, and to carefully
consider evolutionary versus revolutionary approaches so that ROI is positive and project
risks are fully controlled. |
